This Diva sure is something! It’s really fun to see the sparkle in Brian’s eyes as he takes a moment and looks around at her. Most of her parts (to the land lubber anyway) seem to be in adequate functioning order. To our mariners on board, we’re having some tiny issues. More to be discussed later once they get up and I get a better handle on the technical component.
Williams Island Marina in Aventura, FL is where we’re docked currently. The Diva’s décor matches some of the architechture here – pure Miami Vice.
My first duty was to go shopping! Blankets, pillows, coat hangers, sealing tape and victuals for 4 for two weeks. It was a CRAZY afternoon and I am pretty sure I’ve never been in a Walmart that was so super-sized! I had the car so the boys were pretty stuck but they ate “steak” for lunch - Bruce’s term for the vanilla sandwich cookies I’d shipped down earlier in the week. Any port in a storm, right? I treated them right with 1.5” steak slathered in garlic butter, roasted potatoes and spinach salad (they will be served veggies!) and all was much better after that!
Brian has been so pleased with how he’s been treated down here. Most recently, there was a cover that required stitching. Some how he was connected with a guy on Saturday night who not only picked the canvas up on Saturday night, but also delivered it Sunday morning for $100. Bri said he couldn’t get his wallet out fast enough. Good peeps down here.
I was reminded however that the Southerner moves at the Southerner's pace in some cases. Like when you're having meats and cheeses sliced at the deli. After you've already been shopping for 1.5 hours and you have at least an hour left to go...
**Technical update! (Brian’s up!)** We’re currently waiting on the mechanic to see if he can get some impellers for the fuel transfer pumps. If the mechanic can’t, we will! Diesel engines function differently than gas (duh, but…) but the short story is the engines won’t fire up without fuel being pumped to them. Luckily, we have 3 very capable men who can, and will, get this girl out to sea today! Hopefully!
Another post with pictures when I come back from my walk!
